Common questions
Walking into a church for the first time is easier when you already know how it goes.
- What time should I get there?
- The main service starts at 5:00 PM on Sunday. Leadership gathers to worship at 4:30 PM, and you are welcome to come early and join that too. Nobody will mind if you arrive a few minutes late.
- I don't speak Marshallese. Will I be lost?
- No. The service runs in Marshallese and English together. Songs, preaching and prayer move between the two, and the English is not an afterthought. Plenty of people in the room are following in one language or the other.
- What should I wear?
- Many families dress up, often in island prints, so you will see a lot of color. But nobody is checking. Come in whatever you own.
- How long is the service?
- Plan on a couple of hours, including the fellowship afterwards. There is usually food, and you are expected to eat some.
- What about my kids?
- Bring them. Children stay with their families, and there are always other kids in the room. Friday night youth group at 4:45 PM is for teenagers.
- Will I be singled out as a visitor?
- You will be welcomed, and someone will probably want to shake your hand and feed you. You will not be asked to stand up and introduce yourself.
